Minnesota Prep is looking to get back on track tonight after a tough loss to Dream City Christian last night in the Duel in the desert opening day. Minnesota Prep is 4-4 in Grind Session action and looking to improve their win total to five on the season. Albuquerque Prep is in their second year in the Grind Session and is a young team looking for a victory against a loaded Minnesota team.

Minnesota got out to a quick 7-0 lead over Albuquerque going into a full court press after every made basket. Albuquerque finally hit a bucket 2 minutes into the game, a short jumper by Tai Taiaroa from the free throw line extended ending the 7-0 run by Minnesota.

Brenden Moss hit a deep three for Minnesota and quickly they had a 14-4 lead after only five minutes of play.

Albuquerque climbed back into the game behind tough defense and great shooting by their young sophomore Taiaroa, Marcus Wilson, and Tim Nitafan. With 13 minutes left in the half we had a 14-12 game.

Minnesota Prep then went on a run with scores by Moss, Tavion Banks, Jalyn Patterson (Class of 2025), and Awer Awer.  At the end of the first half Minnesota was up 40-33 over Albuquerque.

Minnesota came out quickly in the second half starting in a full court press again against Albuquerque. Banks threw a beautiful lob for a dunk to DJ Jefferson followed by a three-point shot from Jefferson and after a minute and a half Albuquerque called a time out to regroup down 45-33.

Minnesota Prep controlled the game the rest of the second half behind great play by Powerade player of the game Brenden Moss.  Moss finished with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals for Minnesota.  The final score was 85-72 with Minnesota Prep improving to 5-4 in the Grind Session and Albuquerque falling to 1-4.

Other top performers in the game were DJ Jefferson with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals for Minnesota. Marcus Wilson finished with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals to lead Albuquerque.

Minnesota is done in the Duel in the Desert and is heading back home to the cold while Albuquerque Prep has a tough opponent in Phoenix Prep tomorrow at 7pm in final day action in Duel in the Desert.
